Bare notes: John & Dicey Bare of Piggott, Arkansas

According to the 1880 Census of Clay County, AR:
John Bare was 25 years old, his wife “Dier” was 24 years old. This matches the age of “Dicie,” who was born in 1856. In 1880 they had a daughter, Adaline, who was 3 years old. John Bare is listed as a Farmer while his wife “Keeps house.”

According to the 1900 Census of St. Francis Township in Clay County, AR:
Dicie is listed as Head of Household and is widowed. Her father and mother were born in Tennessee. Her birthday was in February 1857 and she was 43 years old at the time of the census. She had been married for 23 years and had a total of 11 children, 7 of which were still alive. Three sons were listed as living with her: Lewis 16 and David 8 and Ollin 12. Lewis was born in November 1883 and David was born September 1891. They were both born in Arkansas. Also living with Dicie is Joe Hardin. Joe is listed as a nephew. Joe is 20 years old and Ollin is 12- both were also born in Arkansas. Update 11/1/11: According to Una Pollard Ollin “Olie” is listed as Ollin Bare on his marriage certificate to Ellen Love. Therefore Ollin is a fourth child of Dicey and John’s.
UPDATE 7/31/12: According to the actual 1880 census Joe Hardin is listed as the son of Logan Hardin and Sarah Harris Hardin- Sarah is a sister of Dicey’s. The 1880 census places them in St. Francis, Clay County, AR.
A note I wrote down says that Dicie married a J. N. Barnwell on 8/29/1901 but I didn’t record where I found this information. Update 11/1/11: Per Una this information is correct although they divorced at some point as J.N. remarries.
This census lists John Bare as being born in Tennessee. Is it possible he was born in Weakley County- the same as Dicey? Need to check records.
Marriage License from Dunklin County, MO in 1913:
David Bare marries Nessie Hunsaker. David and Nessie are listed as both being from Malden, MO, which is a city in the county of Dunklin. They were married on February 21st.
According to the 1920 Census from Cotton Hill in Dunklin County, MO:
David’s father was born in Illinois. His mother is listed as “Dicie” and her birth was in Tennessee. David was born ‘about’ 1891 and his wife was Nessie Hunsaker. At that time they had three children (Goldie 5, Louiesa 3, and Harold 1). Dicie is living with David & Nessie and is 64 years old.
According to the 1870 Census from Mount Vernon, Jefferson, IL:
No Bares are listed at all in the census. I had read an account that said the Bares moved to Arkansas in the 1860s, but Elizabeth and the children were not mentioned. I wanted to check and see if they stayed behind in Illinois. No record in the census that they did.
Found on Ancestry.com:
Adeline Bare, daughter of John and Dicey, married T. J. Hardin in Clay County, AR. I was not able to view the actual record since I would have to pay. Also listed is J. Jr. Bare married to a Lizzie. Is this John, Jr., son of John and Dicey?
1930 Census in Dunklin, Missouri:
Could not view the actual record on Archives.com, but found a transcribed record for Dave & Nessie Bare. The children are listed but Dicie is not listed as still living with them. Did she pass away before 1930?
Harris Family Notes:
According to the 1870 census they were living in Concord, Greene County, AR.
They were not living there in the 1860 census. For the 1880 census I checked both Greene and Clay Counties and they were not listed, either.
Not living in Bradley County during the 1860 census.
